BTRC shut down 59 unregistered IPTVs
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has shut down 59 unregistered IPTVs as the content broadcast on satellite television is not allowed to use the Internet Protocol network.
This information was conveyed by the media spokesperson of the commission Zakir Hossain Khan in the message 'Explanation of various issues related to IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) service' on Sunday.
He said ISP operators approved by the BTRC for IPTV services would only be able to show the broadcasts of satellite TV channels approved by the Ministry of Information through the Internet to their subscribers. However, for the promotion of each channel or program or content, the necessary agreement / approval / clearance must be obtained from the relevant provider.
In recent times, some unscrupulous businessmen have been illegally buying domains / displaying IPTV to the public through Facebook / YouTube channels which have no legal validity. Therefore, 59 such unregistered illegal IPTV have already been stopped by the Commission. There is no involvement of ISPs approved for IP based data services by BTRC with all these activities.
Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is the process of broadcasting content broadcast on satellite television using the Internet Protocol Network. BTRC only approves IP based data services (e.g. Streaming Service, IP-TV, Video-On-Demand) to licensed ISPs.
